Invisible Children changes culture, policy, and lives through collisions of power and poverty.
MOVIE:
How it all begin. Can a story change the world? In the spring of 2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa in search of a story.
What started out as a filmmaking adventure in Africa transformed into much more when these three boys from southern California found themselves stranded in Northern Uganda. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them a story where children are the weapons and the victims. They discovered children abducted from their homes and forced to fight as child soldiers. The “Invisible Children: Rough Cut” film exposes the effects of a 20 year long was on the children of North Uganda.
MOVEMENT:HOW IT INVOLES YOU.
After people viewed the movie, the question repeatedly asked was, “what can I do?” As a result in September 2004 the nonprofit Invisible Children, Inc. was born from a film. The movement is the awareness, mobilization, and fundraising efforts that are taking place throughout America and around the world. Maribeth Russell, a member of the CUMC Youth Group is the Collierville High School student representative.
MISSION:How we are creating Change.
“The Mission” is to provide education, employment and financial revenue for Northern Ugandans through extensive programs on the ground. The Bracelet Campaign is creating jobs in unemployable war areas of Northern Uganda. Handmade bracelets are available in eight colors, and are accompanied by an inspiring short-film introducing eight unique Invisible Children. Proceeds funnel back to Uganda to put children in school through the Invisible Children’s Education Program. By providing full ride scholarships and a Ugandan mentor for each child through the end of their schooling, Invisible Children’s goal is to equip a generation through education and guidance, to participate in Ugandan leadership and take responsibility for the future of their lives and the future of their country.
