Director of Student Ministries

COLLIERVILLE UMC is a 3,000+ member church with two worship styles in two locations on Sunday morning, averaging 750 in attendance.  The Town of Collierville (population 50,000) is well known for it’s great school system, small town atmosphere, award winning parks and recreation facilities, first rate office and retail developments and beautiful neighborhoods. 

SUMMARY

The person in this position should be a committed Christian Disciple.  Under direct supervision, this position provides guidance for programming and ministry activities that meet the spiritual needs and help the middle school, high school, and college students of Collierville UMC grow in their discipleship of Jesus Christ.  All Student Ministry efforts will be developed and guided by our vision, “Reaching out to transform lives by extending God’s love to all,” and consistent with the core values of CUMC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.     Provide overall direction and administration for all student ministries of CUMC.

2.     Lead, equip and empower the Student Advisory Council and Adult Team of Volunteers.

3.     Be responsible for the ongoing recruitment, training, empowering, and evaluating of student ministry staff and volunteers.

4.     Coordinate all structured student ministry activities with high capacity volunteers, including but not limited to Sundays and Wednesdays.

5.     Provide direction and coordination for all special events for students and their families, including but not limited to Confirmation, mission trips, Discovery Weekend, and missional fundraisers.

6.     Teach and recruit others who can teach the Christian faith as understood through the doctrinal standards of The United Methodist Church.

7.     Select and approve all curriculum used for Sunday school and other programming for these age groups.

8.     Be responsible for the compliance of the ministry with regard to safe sanctuaries training and execution.

9.     Serve as a staff ministry partner to assigned task teams and committees.

10.     Prepare budget requests and monitors expenditures of the student ministries. 

11.     Monitor space, equipment, needs, and repairs in the student ministries area.

12.     Other duties as needed and assigned by direct supervisor or Senior Pastor.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor degree & 5-10 years of experience in a similar or related field.

Sound Technician – Modern Worship

SUMMARY

The person in this position should be a committed Christian Disciple.  Under the direct supervision of the Director of Modern (Contemporary) this position provides technical assistance and leadership in the contemporary worship service at Collierville UMC seeking to use and optimize technical resources to enhance the worship experience and convey the message of Jesus Christ.  Deals with a diverse group of members and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the church.  Independent judgement is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workloads.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist with the design and implementation of all sound technical elements of contemporary worship services in consultation with the Director of Worship (Modern) including: working the iPad, sound board, mic setup, battery checks, sound checks (individuals, handhelds and speakers), monitor checks, etc.
  2. Assist in the training and equipping of volunteers for ministry responsibilities in sound arts in worship and for special events.
  3. Assist with the maintenance of the technical equipment.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Senior Pastor.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is an hourly, part-time position (up to 10 hours).  Includes Sunday mornings hours, weekend hours; and evening hours as necessary.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. High school diploma.
  2. Advanced training and certification in technical worship arts preferred.
  3. 3 years of experience in a similar or related field.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The person in this position should be a committed Christian Disciple.  Under the direct supervision of the Finance Administrator this position assists the Finance Administrator with accounting procedures and responsibilities, assists the Executive Pastor with maintaining and disbursing human resource materials, and is our resource person with Shelby Systems. They work with a diverse group of members and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the church.  Independent judgement is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workloads.

Essential Functions

  1. Pay invoices by verifying transaction information, obtaining authorization of payment and preparing disbursements on a weekly basis
  2. Provide support to program ministries financial needs with month end activity reports
  3. Maintain cash ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions
  4. Prepare and make deposits to the bank, minimum of Monday & Friday
  5. Assist the Finance Administrator as needed with bank account reconciliation
  6. Files sales tax monthly for the Common Cup
  7. Provide backup for Facility Use Management including but not limited to : scheduling events in the event management system and setting or adjusting HVAC system
  8. Resolve account discrepancies by working with vendors, investigation documentation and issuing stop payment and/or adjustments
  9. Monitor and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts monthly

This is a part-time hourly position of approximately 24 hours per week..  Days and hours of work are negotiable.

church staff, office secretaries and volunteers to support the programs of CUMC. Works in
conjunction with the Finance Administrator on financial and human resource record keeping ,
accounts receivable, accounts payable and backup for reconciliation of accounts. Assembles
highly confidential and sensitive information. Deals with a diverse group of members and guest
as well as internal contacts at all levels of the church. Independent judgement is required to plan,
prioritize and organize diversified workloads.

Essential Functions
1. Perform background checks.
2. Maintain office forms and procedures and updates for distribution.

4. Count Sunday offering
5. Maintain church Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable

Summary

The person in this position should be a committed Christian Disciple. Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager this position will be the church’s first contact and example of radical hospitality to guests and members and assist them with information regarding our programs and ministries.

Essential Functions:

  1. Answer phones and direct callers to most appropriate person
  2. Greet and assist visitors
  3. Maintain and update prayer list
  4. Maintain sign-up lists
  5. Maintain contractor visitor list for security and safety
  6. In case of emergencies, responsible for securing the lobby, Common Cup, restrooms, library and Senior Suite and knowing what contractors are still on site based on sign in and then exit at lobby
  7. Scheduling and contacting volunteers for the front desk
  8. Help with mailings
  9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
